For safety and reliability, all renewable generating systems that wish to connect to the electric grid must have an Interconnection Agreement with PG&E in accordance with federal and state regulations. Our Generation Interconnection Services team is here to help you ensure a successful project and safe, reliable interconnection to the grid.
Upon interconnection, PG&E's Net Energy Metering (NEM) Program provides customers the ability to offset the cost of their electricity with energy their generating system exports to the grid. When you generate more electricity than you use, the excess flows to PG&E's electric grid, giving you a credit that offsets the cost of the electricity you purchase.
At the time of interconnection, PG&E will install a Net Meter that measures the differences between the amount of electricity your system generates and the amount you use from grid. Starting in 2012, PG&E will begin upgrading the existing Net Meter with a SmartMeter™.
