SmartRate becomes even easier to participate in for customers who are also signed up for the SmartAC program:
Newly enrolled participants receive bill protection for their first full summer on SmartRate. With automatic bill protection you will not pay more on the new pricing plan than you would pay under your previous plan.
Here's how automatic bill protection works. Each month, you will pay your PG&E energy costs as you normally would. At the end of the SmartRate Plan period PG&E will evaluate your monthly costs to determine your total electricity costs on the Plan. If your cumulative SmartRate costs over the summer are more than they would have been on your previous pricing plan, we will automatically reimburse the difference with a credit on your November energy statement.
After you have completed your first full summer season, bill protection will no longer apply. You will receive two notifications before your bill protection expires:
You can opt out of the new pricing plan at any time and revert to your previous pricing plan by calling 1-866-743-0263.
Residential energy charges are calculated by using your previous pricing plan with the following SmartRate adjustments:
By voluntarily selecting this rate plan, you are accepting higher electric charges in each tier up to 15 days during the SmartRate participation period. If your bills are higher during your first full summer of participation, you will receive Bill Protection and PG&E will automatically reimburse you the difference in November of that year. Accounts without bill protection may have a higher annual bill than may otherwise occur, but bill savings are also possible.
You have the potential to save money each month if you can lower your electricity usage between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m. on SmartDays.
Your November billing statement will include a comparison of your SmartRate Plan usage and what your rate would have been under your previous pricing plan. You may want to review this information before making a decision about opting out of SmartRate. You may opt out of the new pricing plan at any time and revert to your previous pricing plan by calling 1-866-743-0263.
