In recognition of demonstrated excellence in leadership, community service, and academic achievement, Pacific Gas and Electric Company and the Filipino Employees Association (FEA) recently presented 17 college-bound students with $1,500 scholarships.
“We are proud to support and encourage the scholarship winners in their efforts to pursue a higher education,” said Bob Howard, vice president of gas transmission and distribution for Pacific Gas and Electric Company. “Their unique accomplishments demonstrate a determination to succeed that will serve them well in college and beyond.”
The 2008 recipients were chosen from more than 250 applications submitted by college-bound high school seniors throughout PG&E's service area. Each of this year’s selected applicants have displayed a broad range of leadership, commitment to their community and family and demonstrated financial need, all of which magnifies their outstanding scholastic achievements.
This year’s FEA scholarship fund was the largest in more than thirty years. It was raised from employees’ contributions through the Campaign for the Community, fundraising, and from PG&E’s corporate charitable giving.
To encourage participation in the scholarship program, FEA reaches out to school districts throughout PG&E’s service area.
