CEO Joins PG&E Volunteers to Beautify State Park Area at Month of Service Kickoff
SAN FRANCISCO — It was rainy and windy in San Francisco today (April 4), but that didn’t stop PG&E CEO Tony Earley and dozens of employees from kicking off the utility’s first Month of Service. At PG&E, volunteers have long supported Earth Day with cleanups throughout the Northern and Central California. This year, the utility has organized a Month of Service — more than 100 community service projects in April. Projects include everything from installing solar panels in Chico to serving meals to the homeless in Fresno. Sara Feldman, vice president of programs for the California State Parks Foundation, said her organization depends on the goodwill of PG&E, which has partnered with her organization for the past 11 years.

Madera County: High School Students Help Promote Autism Awareness with PG&E Grant
Madera High School students, faculty and PG&E representatives celebrated a $2,500 grant today (April 3) that will be used to further autism awareness at the school. The PG&E grant was awarded to the Madera Academic Youth Alliance(M.A.Y.A.) club at the high school and was highlighted with an oversized check presented at the school today. The student club has been in existence for more than 20 years and promotes higher education, school and community involvement as well as cultural education and awareness. There are 60 student members who plan and participate in educational conferences and numerous community service events.

California Regulators Approve PG&E-SunPower Solar Contract
California regulators on Thursday approved a deal between PG&E Corp. (PCG) and SunPower Corp. (SPWR) under which the utility will buy electricity from a solar farm SunPower plans to build in southern California. The power will come from the 100-megawatt Henrietta solar facility near Lemoore Station, Calif., that is being developed by SunPower unit Parrey LLC, according to the California Public Utilities Commission. PG&E didn't disclose the price it has agreed to pay for the power under the 20-year contract. PG&E and other California utilities are required to use solar, wind or other renewable-power sources for a third of the electricity they sell to their customers by 2020, under the state's plan to fight climate change.

CHICO — It's a spring ritual for several Chico PG&E employees, who spent a recent morning examining science projects ranging from water purification to the lives of earthworms, from optical illusions to the best golf balls for distance. Dozens of long tables held some 500 science projects submitted by kindergarten through 12th grade students. The room was quiet as nine PG&E employees — engineers, an archeologist and a former teacher – spent the morning judging exhibits alongside dozens of other volunteers, mostly retired educators.
