Shell Pond Cleanup and Wetland Restoration

PG&E Shell Pond

Shell Pond - aerial view

PG&E has begun cleanup of the Shell Pond property located along the waterfront next to Suisun and Honker Bays in Bay Point, California.

The cleanup of the PG&E owned property calls for the removal of 240,000 cubic yards of material via hydraulic and mechanical excavation from the Shell Pond. After removal is complete, the levee will be opened and the area will be allowed to revert to a natural wetland. We anticipate that the access road constructed during this project will eventually become part of the Great California Delta Trail.

Arcadis US, an international design, engineering and management company that specializes in large-scale cleanup projects, has been selected as the contractor for this project.

The cleanup plan, which is being conducted under the oversight of the California Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) and the Bay Area Air Quality Management District (BAAQMD), includes measures to protect the community throughout the entire project, including air monitoring, dust and odor control, and traffic control and monitoring.

PG&E is committed to working with the community of Bay Point throughout the cleanup process. It is anticipated that Arcadis US will hire 15 to 20 Bay Point and Pittsburg residents to fill temporary positions such as laborers, traffic monitors and administrative assistants. PG&E is also committed, through our outreach program, to ongoing and open dialogue with the community on all aspects of the project.
Please keep checking this website as we post additional project information.
