FEA Scholarships
Eight High School Seniors Receive Scholarships for Leadership, Community Service and Academic Excellence
In recognition for demonstrated excellence in leadership, community service and academic achievement, Pacific Gas and Electric Company and the PG&E Filipino Employees Association (FEA) presented eight high school seniors with scholarships on May 22. Five students received $1,000 scholarships, and three students received $500 scholarships. All recipients demonstrated excellence in leadership, community service, and academic achievement. The 2003 Pacific Gas and Electric Company FEA Scholarship Recipients are:
- Brian Brocious, Monte Vista High School, Danville, is graduating with a grade point average (GPA) of 4.34, will be attending the University of Pennsylvania this fall, and will be double majoring in mechanical engineering and business management. ($1,000 scholarship)
- Jessica Chen, Monte Vista High School, Danville, is graduating with a GPA of 4.38, will be attending New York University this fall, and will be majoring in communications. ($1,000 scholarship)
- Kristine Fontalba, Holy Name High School, Oakland, is graduating with a GPA of 3.80, will be attending UC San Diego this fall, majoring in biological science. ($500 scholarship)
- Germalyn Lomibao, Santa Maria High School, Santa Maria, is graduating with a GPA of 4.01, will be attending California State University, Fresno this fall, and will be majoring in physical therapy. ($500 scholarship)
- Julia Rabinovich, Lowell High School, San Francisco, is graduating with a GPA of 4.55, will be attending Columbia University, and will be majoring in English literature. ($1,000 scholarship)
- Janeen Selfaison, Vanden High School, Fairfield, is graduating with a GPA of 4.15, will be attending Brigham Young University this fall, and will be majoring in physiology and health education. ($1,000 scholarship)
- Heidi Tuason, St. Ignatius College Preparatory, San Francisco, is graduating with a GPA of 4.18, will be attending UC San Diego this fall, and will be majoring in bioengineering. ($1,000 scholarship)
- Elizabeth Woo, Lowell High School, San Francisco, is graduating with a GPA of 4.19, will be attending UC San Diego this fall, and will be majoring in human development. ($500 scholarship) The 2003 recipients were chosen from almost 100 applicants. Criteria used for selection include the student's grades, leadership and community involvement, curriculum, essay, interview and financial need. "The FEA is the oldest employee organization at Pacific Gas and Electric Company. We were established in 1971, and I can proudly say that these are our twenty-eighth annual scholarship awards," said Sam Sabagquit, FEA President. "We believe in helping high achieving students develop a better future. This is just one way of giving back to our community." Pacific Gas and Electric Company made a $5,000 charitable education grant to help fund this year's $6,500 FEA Scholarship. The remainder of the funds was raised by the FEA through food sales, raffles and other fundraising activities. Pacific Gas and Electric Company has a long history of making charitable grants tailored to the needs of the wide variety of communities it serves. The company's charitable contributions program provides cash grants, in-kind contributions, and volunteers for community-based nonprofit organizations, and for schools and other governmental programs throughout northern and central California. All charitable contributions are entirely funded by the company's shareholders, and do not affect rates for electricity or gas.
