2005 College Scholarship Program

The Filipino Employees Association (FEA) of Pacific Gas and Electric Company presented 12 college-bound high school senior students with awards of $1,000 scholarships each, and 14 other students with $100 awards for academic excellence.

We are delighted to offer our support of financial aid to some of our bright and talented students who are embarking in this challenging stage of their life in pursuit of higher education, said Pacific Gas and Electric Companys Senior Vice President of Customer Satisfaction and Revenue (and executive adviser of FEA) Tom Bottorff. The other speakers included Dr. Poly-Vela-Victa, an FEA 1988 Scholarship recipient, and Dexter Ligot-Gordon, a recent UC-Berkeley graduate and 2005 winner of the prestigious Filipinas Magazine Achievement Award for Youth Leadership, and Robert Howard, Vice President of PG&Es California Gas Transmission. After each speaker briefly shared their personal college experience to the delight of a fairly diverse crowd of employees, youth and community memberseach speaker offered encouraging advice to the students and reminded them to continue to broaden their horizons.

Each of this year's scholarship recipients displayed exceptional scholastic achievements (applicants had to meet a minimum grade point average of 3.5), outstanding leadership skills and commitment to community service. The selection of the scholarship winners included a face-to-face interview for the finalists.

This year's sources of FEA scholarship funding came from a $10,000 grant from Pacific Gas and Electric Company and $3,400 raised through PG&E employee donations to the companys Campaign for the Community program, which is made possible through monthly payroll deductions.
