Free Classroom Materials on Energy, Energy Efficiency and the Environment
Pacific Gas and Electric Company's (PG&E) Energenius Educational Series offers interactive, engaging programs for grades kindergarten through eighth. Each program includes detailed lesson plans, student activity books, posters and take-home materials. All the programs have been field tested and correlate to California State Content Standards. All educators in the PG&E service territory qualify to receive free Energenius materials.

We Saved Energy Today — Three Lessons
The We Saved Energy Today Program is designed to teach young children simple actions they can take to save energy and not waste natural resources. Through a song, preschool children learn to turn off lights when not needed, how and what to recycle, and ways not to waste water.
The We Saved Energy Today Big Book and the student activity book introduce children to the Energenius character. As they listen, sing, dance, count, write, color, broaden vocabularies and participate in a myriad of activities they learn habits to save energy and become like the Energenius.
The We Saved Energy Today student activity book, once
completed, and an Energenius Certificate are sent home to parents or guardians.

Grade K - 1: Kindergarten - 1st Grade
Energenius Kindergarten - 1st Grade Program — Three Lessons
The Energenius Kindergarten - 1st grade Program is designed to teach young children simple actions they can take to save energy and conserve natural resources, at home and school. Children use listening, reading, and speaking skills as they follow the illustrations and text in The Energenius Big Book or complete activities in their Energenius Little Books.
I am an Energenius! Coloring Calendar illustrates additional ways to save energy and conserve natural resources. Students also learn about important safety behaviors to keep safe around electricity.

Grades 2 - 3
Energy and Me! — Four Lessons
The Energenius “Energy and Me!” program helps students learn about the energy they use each day to light their rooms, cook their food, and power their televisions and computers. Through classroom and home activities they learn more about how energy is used and how energy can be saved and natural resources conserved. A 48-page activity book provides readings, research activities, investigations, art projects and more. A 12-month calendar, with sticker sets, focuses on more energy saving tips that students can follow throughout the year. Teachers are provided with two large classroom posters for students to post their own ideas about saving energy.

Grades 4 - 5
Energenius E Program — Four Lessons
The E Program features a lively student book with a myriad of energy focused activities, experiments and Internet research projects. Playing the role of school energy investigators, students discover how energy efficient habits and technologies can work together to reduce energy consumption and conserve natural resources.
The Energenius E Calendar includes celebrations for America Recycles Day and environmental projects focused on tree planting, wind power and water conservation.
Students will do mathematical problems using their Energenius E Calculators. They will discover the amount of electricity needed to power the electronic equipment and the appliances they use.

Grades 4 - 6
Energy Check-Up for the Environment — Three Lessons
This mini curriculum unit helps students learn where energy comes from, how it is used in their homes and schools, and how they can be energy efficient and conserve natural resources. Students will complete surveys and check-up activities that will help them discover how energy-efficient actions can help reduce the impacts of energy use and production on the environment.
This program includes a student activity book, a take-home poster and information for families wanting to do a home survey on energy efficiency. This educational program can be used as a stand- alone material or part of a larger study on energy and the environment.

Grades 4 - 6
Trees, Energy, and the Environment — Four Lessons
Students will study many things about trees in this unit beginning with how trees provide oxygen to breathe, foods to eat, an abundance of products, and a habitat for animals. Students will discover that trees help clean the air and also help capture the greenhouse gas emissions that contribute to global climate change. Students will also study how trees can cool the air and provide the shade to make homes and buildings more energy efficient.
An activity-packed student book provides diagrams, readings, investigations, surveys, experiments, and Web research, Included are a range of projects from tree planting to poster art and an activity to conserve trees by stopping unwanted catalogs. A colorful large poster supporting what students learn in this unit, is provided as a take home material for family members.

Grades 4 - 6
Water, Energy, and the Environment — Three Lessons
This educational program involves students in a myriad of activities on the nexus or connections between our use of water and energy. They will discover the amount of water used in power plants to produce electricity to power computers, video games and appliances. They learn how energy is used to move, treat, and purify the water used in their homes and schools. Students discover that when energy is wasted water is also wasted, and when water is wasted energy is wasted. Class activities focus students on the water cycle, how to conserve water and energy, and make a difference for the environment.
This 44-page student book includes readings, diagrams, experiments, surveys, and web-based research activities, plus a detailed glossary of Water Words. A colorful, large poster covering what students learn in this unit is provided as a take-home material for family members.

Grades 6 and Above
Transportation, Energy, and the Environment — Four Lessons
Students discover how their own travels use energy. They learn how most of the fuel today that powers travel comes from oil—a nonrenewable energy source. They research the environmental impacts of fuels used for transportation and learn about alternative fueled vehicles. Students develop projects that might include safe walking and cycling to school, no-idling school zones, and field trips by public transit. Student discover many energy-saving actions they can take at home and school.
An activity-packed student book provides diagrams, experiments, surveys and web research. Students analyze the pros and cons of various alternative fueled vehicles and consider other transportation options as they think "outside the car." A colorful, large poster supporting what students learn in this unit is provided as take home material for family members.
